Lawo mc²90

What is it?An HD digital desk based on a modular design allowing it to convert easily from broadcast production to surround studio roles. DetailsWith a freely-configurable control surface with up to 200 faders and direct access to all parameters at any time, the mc²90 incorporates high-performance DSP cards and, according to Lawo, the most powerful routing matrix currently available. It offers over 8000 crosspoints, more than 500 DSP channels, I/O level adjustment and downsizing (up to 7.1) to stereo. Full networking of up to 16 HD cores is available with sharing and import of sources and destinations plus full snapshot and production portability – independent of matrix or DSP size. The mc²90 offers redundant computer control fully integrated with the router.
 The modular control surface is designed to facilitate true two-man operation; ‘decentralised’ central controls can be copied to any other area of the console at anytime so that, for example, selecting ISO Bay Access mode (with a single button push) optimises the desk for use by more than one sound engineer. Using colour and layout, the mc²90 provides an “intuitive overview” of every control at any time. All modules are designed to make them visually distinguishable from each other so that labelling is almost unnecessary. OLED displays are used extensively across the desk, providing a large amount of detailed visual information and simplifying operation.
 The design also incorporates advance signal processing for surround applications together with a Hyper-panning feature which offers control of a complete surround ‘bundle’, with a single fader linked to all channel parameters and 8-bar metering. Hyper-panning also allows rotation of a surround bundle through 360 degrees. Networking is central to Lawo’s design concept; it is possible to configure ambitious broadcast complexes with networks of up to 16 Lawo consoles and Nova73 HD routers. This allows distribution of I/O resources on the network without restrictions and, via Netlinks (MADI, ATM, AES or Analogue Audio), linking of different Lawo mixing consoles to one large routing system. In addition, local sources and destinations can be shared at the push of a button, with all parameters being accessible from every console.
