Mind over matter: Midwich’s commitment to supporting staff’s mental health

The audio visual and document solutions distributor continues to discuss mental health issues and has two of its staff members qualify as 'mental health first aiders'

Midwich has attributed its on-going success to the continued and open discussion of its employees mental health, following the appointment of two ‘mental health first aiders’ within its staff. 

Lesa Orford, HR manager and Simon Evetts, head of UK facilities and health and safety, have recently qualified as ‘mental health first aiders’ for the company. The pair said in a joint statement: “Following our successful completion of the course, we both feel confident that we’re able to spot the early signs of a mental health issue, feel confident in how to offer and provide initial help to a person experiencing a mental health issue and guide them towards appropriate treatment and other sources of help.”

In any one year approximately one in four people experience at least one diagnosable mental health issue and the World Health Organisation forecasts that by 2030 depression will be the single leading cause of the global burden of disease. The long-standing stigma around mental ill health means that many people have a limited understanding of mental health.
