Prolight+Sound still going ahead despite Coronavirus concerns

Organisers have told PSNEurope there are 'no plans to postpone' the event despite Adam Hall pulling out of this year’s show

Prolight+Sound organisers have told PSNEurope that there are no plans to postpone this year’s event, despite the announcement of German distributor Adam Hall’s decision to pull out of the Frankfurt event due to concerns over the Coronavirus.

The cancellation of Adam Hall’s participation was revealed on February 26 and will no doubt be a source of concern for Prolight+Sound organisers, with the company stating that it is “following the most recent preventive recommendations from the health authorities for responsible protection of employees, partners and trade show visitors”.

It is not yet known if any other pro audio companies – lighting brands Vari-Lyte and Strand have announced their withdrawal – have decided to withdraw from the show. However, Messe Frankfurt’s Hendrik Mueller-Giegler has told PSNEurope that there are no plans to postpone or cancel the event and that it is in regular contact with health authorities as it continues to monitor the situation.

“There are no plans to postpone Prolight + Sound (31 March to 3 April 2020),” Mueller-Giegler confirmed. “We shall continue to be in regular, close touch with the specialists in the relevant authorities and will follow their advice and implement all recommendations in full. As organisers, our top priority is the health of our exhibitors, visitors and staff. Quite apart from the current situation, the safety and security regulations at the Exhibition Centre are of an extremely high standard, and we have extended them even further in the last few weeks. So, for instance, we have increased the cleaning schedules for heavily frequented areas such as entrances, door handles, escalator handrails, etc. still further. Moreover, additional disinfectant dispensers have been distributed across the Exhibition Centre. In spite of all the challenges, we are looking forward to sharing a successful and inspiring show with you, and to celebrating a 25th anniversary for Prolight+Sound in suitable style.”

While there may not yet be plans for the show to be postponed, with new information that hundreds of flights have been cancelled, including to and from Germany, exhibitors and attendees may struggle to get there.
