Steven Zissler, sound and broadcast manager for the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, has been confirmed as the latest participant in PSNEurope‘s inaugural PSNPresents event on March 12th.
Zissler will join other leading names from the world of live sound/broadcasting for a night of revelation and revelry at the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho. All those who attend stand the chance of winning a Focusrite RedNet 6 MADI bridge (one of a range of modular Ethernet-networked audio interfaces which deliver studio-quality sound to a range of pro-audio applications) worth over £1,500.
Zissler started his working life at 16, working in a “dusty old electronics shop” on the Edgware Road. Soon after completing an ABTT Theatre Sound Course, he joined the ROH Sound Dept in 1982, working with the Royal Opera, Royal Ballet and, until recently, Birmingham Royal Ballet. “Over the years I have worked on all the major classics for both opera and ballet,” he says. “Added to this, I have also had the pleasure of touring with the companies to Europe, the Far East and America.”
With his dynamic attitude (…and his arabesques, pirouettes and entrechat), Zissler is an exciting addition to the evening.
PSNPresents, inspired by The Pre-Roll section of last year’s Pro Sound Awards, is centred around a sequence of on-stage interviews and panels with leading lights from the pro-audio spectrum. Focusrite, a leading manufacturer of studio equipment, was confirmed as the first event sponsor last month (see Focusrite confirmed as PSNPresents… sponsor). At press time, Pro Tools developer Avid had been confirmed as a second sponsor.
Charles ‘Chicky’ Reeves, who swapped tales of life on the road with Grace Jones and Prince at The Pre-Roll in September (see Prince FOH Chicky Reeves back for more at PSNPresents) joins Massive Attack’s Robb Allan on a panel to discuss the highs and lows of working in the live sound scene. (Further panelists are still to be announced imminently.)
While the live sound panel represents the second half of the evening’s entertainment, the first half will find Bafta-nominated Scott Talbott, craft manager at BBC Studios and Post Production (see BBC S&PP’s Scott Talbott to speak at PSNPresents), Strictly Come Dancing sound supervisor Andy Tapley (see Andy Tapley, BBC S&PP sound supervisor, added to PSNPresents line-up) and the National Theatre’s head of sound and video Jonathan Suffolk (see PSNPresents: Live sound legend Robb Allan and NT’s Jonathan Suffolk confirmed) in a lively Q&A session about the challenges of live sound in the broadcast and theatre environments. PSNPresents will take place at the Ham Yard Hotel, London, on Thursday 12 March from 6.45pm with a 7.30pm start. Tickets are £35.
A variety of sponsorship packages are available for the event. Contact Ryan O’Donnell ([email protected]), Darrell Carter ([email protected]) or Rian Zoll-Khan ([email protected]) for more information.
