Røde launches on-camera microphone to celebrate 50th anniversary year

Røde Microphones has launched a new on-camera microphone 50 years after parent company Freedman Electronics first set up shop.

The VideoMic Pro+ is a shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders, as a source of primary and reference audio.

Marketed at the ‘prosumer’ filmmaker, its digital switch feature promises to capture quality audio at the source, reducing post-production and editing time.

Freedman Group CEO Damien Wilson said: “The VideoMic Pro+ is a new benchmark in on-camera microphones. We have listened to our customers and are delivering the microphone they’ve asked for, with all-new features in the box.”

The microphone is compatible with an included rechargeable battery, two standard AA batteries or a constant USB power source. New features include a built-in battery door and automatic power function (which automatically turns off the microphone when unplugged from the camera).

Røde Microphones designs and manufactures microphones and related accessories for studio, live and location use. Its products are designed and primarily manufactured in Sydney, Australia and exported to over 113 countries globally. It began manufacturing on-camera microphones in 2008 after founder Peter Freedman created an on-camera microphone to film his son’s rugby matches.
