Spitfire Audio, British music tech company that creates sample libraries and virtual instruments with orchestral musicians, has launched its own record label, SA Recordings.
The record label launches with a first release of limited edition vinyl EP from Spitfire’s lead composer Oliver Patrice Weder, entitled ‘Studio Session: Amsterdam’. The EP was recorded at his home studio in Amsterdam for Piano Day 2018, and features three pieces from his forthcoming album, which will be released on SA Recordings in 2019. Evidentially, SA Recordings will provide a platform for Spitfire-affiliated composers and emerging artists to release their work.
As the lead composer at Spitfire Audio and a key figure in the creation of Spitfire’s acclaimed virtual instruments, Weder’s involvement in the label is a natural progression, and an example of the close-knit Spitfire community that label manager Harriet Pittard is aiming to nurture.
According to Weder: “The songs on my album are excerpts of recent experiences, events and adventures in my life – travels to places such as the UK, Brazil and Africa have not only been the spark for ideas, but also shaped the sound of the album. These cultural influences give an unusual blend of sounds, which lets you be a part of a very personal journey. It is as if I am handing you my personal diary notes.”
With the first EP due in January 2019 and multiple collaborative projects and LPs pencilled for the 2019 release, SA Recordings will work towards establishing itself as a multi-genre, multi-platform label that will further contribute towards Spitfire Audio’s growth.
Pittard concluded: “The launch of SA Recordings will be an opportunity to work even more closely with artists and composers affiliated with Spitfire Audio, many of whom we have collaborated with already and whose music we would like to champion going forward. The label will also open up a space for us to forge new collaborative relationships with emerging composers. SA Recordings has an incredible opportunity to work in conjunction with the Spitfire Audio team to create bespoke sample libraries for forthcoming releases, a pioneering and unique asset that will set the label apart.”
