Coda Audio Tackles Saitama Super Arena

When Japanese singer T.M. Revolution played a string of shows in May at The Saitama Super Arena near Tokyo, audio provider Hibino Sound and its chief system designer Hiroshi Inoue used an AiRAY system from Germany manufacturer Coda Audio to cover the expansive facility.

Tokyo, Japan (August 7, 2017)—When Japanese singer T.M. Revolution played a string of shows in May at The Saitama Super Arena near Tokyo, audio provider Hibino Sound and its chief system designer Hiroshi Inoue used an AiRAY system from Germany manufacturer Coda Audio to cover the expansive facility.

Due to the shows’ staging, which included long runways from the stage to deep within the crowd, the FOH position was 70 meters from the PA and in an untraditional location. FOH engineer Shintaro Sato remarked, “Using Coda Audio AiRAY for this concert was a revelation. …It was as though I was listening very close up. Also what amazed me was the reproducibility of the output sound against the input signal – meaning the audience is experiencing a more ‘real’ sound.”

Hibino’s chief of system design, Hiroshi Inoue, added, “Normally, when doing shows at the Saitama Super Arena, we’ve always had issues with 200Hz to 300Hz in the central area around 90 meters from the main stage and we’ve always had to work hard to resolve it. On this occasion, using AiRAY in there for the first time, we had clear sound in any position in the arena and I realized that our previous issues were not caused by the design of the venue at all. It was amazing that I could feel the ‘shape’ of the sound very close up no matter where I stood in the audience areas; when I closed my eyes it was like having a delay speaker in front of me!”

The system fielded for the shows included, per side, three SC2-Fs and a dozen SC2-Fs on the main hangs, along with eight AiRAY on each sidefill hang. Also on hand were 12 SCV-F ground subs and a half-dozen TiRAY front-fills. The entire system was powered by six racks of LINUSRack40T-J amplifiers.
