DBS Fields DAS at EDC

DBS Sound and Lighting used a considerable D.A.S. Audio P.A. system for the Electric Daisy Carnival at Orlando's Tinker Field.

Orlando, FL (March 25, 2016)—The most recent edition of the Electric Daisy Carnival found the electronic dance music festival at Tinker Field bring out the likes of DJs Simon Patterson, Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten along with electronica and house music artists Green Velvet, Claude Vonstroke. Bringing them to 134,000 people each day was DBS Sound and Lighting of Irwindale, CA, which used a considerable DAS Audio P.A. system.

Based around DAS Audio Aero Series 2 loudspeakers, the system included Aero 50 3-way line arrays, Aero 20A compact line arrays, UX-221 high power ultra-low frequency subwoofers and LX-118A subwoofers.

Ruben Silva, DBS’s owner and chief operator, explained, “In order to provide the SPL levels necessary for suitable coverage, we used 20 DAS Audio Aero 50 line array enclosures powered by Crown HD12000 amplifiers—10 each for the left and right main hangs. We also used four DAS Aero 20A line arrays for front fill and another eight Aero 20As for out fill—four per side.”

“For low-frequency support,” he continued, “we deployed 24 DAS UX-221 subwoofers configured as eight triple-stacks in a cardioid configuration. These too, were driven by Crown HD12000 power amps. Sidefills were handled by a combination of Aero 20A line array enclosures and LX-118A powered subwoofers—two each for the left and right sides.”

Looking back at the event, Silva mused, “EDC Orlando was a success. Paul Van Dyk loved the rig. Further, the Event staff and Promotions team were very happy with the rig and the services we provided. Most importantly, we’ve been invited back. When one project leads to new business, that’s as good as it gets.”
