Soiled Dove Dives into dLive

Long-running Denver night spot The Soiled Dove Underground recently updated its sound system with an Allen & Heath dLive console.

Denver, CO (November 21, 2019)—Long-running Denver night spot The Soiled Dove Underground recently updated its sound system with an Allen & Heath dLive console.

Innovations: Allen & Heath Avantis Digital Mixing Console

Located in the heart of Denver’s Lowry Field neighborhood, The Soiled Dove Underground was built cabaret-style with a lofty stage, three levels of tiered seating and ample acoustical treatments.

“This environment was built properly,” noted Chris Steele, the venue’s production manager and audio engineer for the last 18 years. “That fact allows me to focus on bringing what’s happening onstage to the audience with every bit of the artist’s true intent intact. I don’t have to focus on problems of any kind like a harsh slapback ricocheting off the back wall.”

Until now, the venue always had an analog mixing desk at the FOH position, but that’s changed with the arrival of a Allen & Heath dLive console in the form of a C3500 surface and a CDM48 MixRack.

“It’s the perfect system for a room like this with pristine acoustics,” Steele said. “At 96 kHz, it has a very coherent sound—never ‘wiggly’ in the upper frequencies, it sums appropriately and it has a number of features built-in that I would otherwise have to buy additional components to get. With this desk, I can configure my workflow in such a way that everything is on the surface, like my DEEP compression and effects. I like to keep things straightforward, but if I want to install an expansion card, that’s easy enough without the use of any kind of external server rack.”

“Adding the dLive C3500 system to all of this has been an energizing experience,” Steele added. “You can really hear the difference.”
