SAN FRANCISCO, CA—The sound, video, and multimedia design consulting firm Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. recently completed their installation at San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers starting in the 2014-2015 football season.
As part of the multi-million dollar project, WJHW designed the audio set up for the stadium’s two press rooms, using RCI Custom Products’ A/V splitters to help control the distribution between the rooms’ sound systems and the media reporters’ recording and broadcasting set ups.
“The initial attraction to RCI was the fact that they were already manufacturing high-quality press distribution devices in a portable format that we had used in the past,” explained Ron Baker, a principal with WJHW who was involved with the Levi’s Stadium project. “Our requirement at the time was to get away from the portable configuration and install a permanent distribution box in the wall.”
Baker explained that RCI was able to accommodate the stadium’s needs for the press rooms, allowing the stadium’s crews to easily set up the press room before an event.
Specifically, a RCIBM16DBFM—a customized version of the BM16DB—was used for the press room as a flush mount that fit into a standard NEMA wall box. The unit was also encased in a custom chassis with power supply, running the power cable from the chassis to an AC duplex outlet that was mounted into the inside of the NEMA box. The room also includes permanently installed microphones in the ceiling, along with extra stage mics, connected to the sound system and the RCI media distribution unit. As the mics pick up the athletes’ answers to reporters’ questions, one line is sent to the room’s sound system, while another line connects to the media box to send out to multiple media cameras in the room for broadcast.
“We have basically two output systems: one to local reinforcement, and the other combines the ceiling mics and routed to the RCI unit and isolates, balances and combines the signals available to accommodate up to 16 different media users if they want to connect up,” explained Baker.
