Biamp Systems has been acquired by private investment firm Dallas-based Highlander Partners from previous owner Lomar Corporation. Financial details were not released other than that Lomar will retain a minority investment in Biamp.
ACT Lighting, Inc., an importer and distributor of entertainment technology, has acquired RHC Holdings Corp., better known as RapcoHorizon, a vertically-integrated manufacturer of interconnect assemblies, audio, data and interface products, and specialty industrial wire. RapcoHorizon brands include ProCo, RAT, RoadHog and StageMASTER.

The announcement came Friday, November 17, from parent company Gibson Brands, which said Cakewalk was ceasing new product development, stating the move was made to “better align with [Gibson Brands’] acquisition strategy that is heavily focused on growth in the global consumer electronics audio business under the Philips brand.” Gibson Brands acquired Cakewalk in late 2013.
Waves Audio and Steinberg have joined forces in offering Cubasis and Cubasis LE users three in-app purchasable plugins by Waves. Cubasis is Steinberg’s sequencer app for iPad, similar to its Cubase music production system, “providing the same look and feel as well as project compatibility for easy import to Cubase,” explains Waves promotional materials.

Acquisition terms were not disclosed other than that Soundtrap will continue to operate as before, though some tech sites have estimated the deal at $30 million.
Universal Audio has introduced its new Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor Compressor plug-in. Created in collaboration with Empirical Labs, the plug-in emulation is designed for UAD hardware and Apollo interfaces as part of UAD Software v9.4.
Warm Audio has announced its new WA-47 tube condenser microphone, due to ship in December. Inspired by the vintage U 47 mic, the all-vacuum tube, large diaphragm WA-47 offers nine patterns and is intended for studio, live and broadcast applications.

But it was while attending the University of Electronic Engineering in Florence, Italy, that his appetite was whetted for his future. “I actually did a PhD. in power electronics,” he offers.
Steinberg has announced the immediate availability of the 9.5 updates to the Pro, Artist and Elements editions of Cubase. Reportedly “earlier than anticipated,” Steinberg is releasing this year’s update this month, “seizing the opportunity to introduce the additions to customers as soon as possible,” notes the company.
Industry mainstay John Stiernberg died Saturday, November 11, 2017, after a battle with cancer. He was 66. As the president and co-founder of Stiernberg Consulting, his business development consultancy, he helped guide many audio industry companies to success, and made his influence felt by authoring hundreds of articles and white papers along the way.

Commonly known as the “lunchbox,” the rack has spawned an industry, inspiring everyone from boutique operations working out of garages to major pro-audio manufacturers to produce 500 series modules of modern and vintage circuitry.
