Q: What is your new position, and what does it entail?

A: When I was named general manager of the brand-new Yamaha Professional Audio Division in April of 2015, I was given an amazing opportunity to create an all-encompassing PA juggernaut. Adding Steinberg recording solutions and the Yamaha MI Pro Audio (MIPA) team to our existing Commercial Audio division (formerly known as YCAS), we finally have these different divisions together under the same ‘roof’. Each of the high functioning teams were already strong apart, but together, clearly, we can offer so much more in the way of synergistic marketing, streamlined distribution, economies of scale, and so forth. I am privileged to lead the greatest people in our industry, and with our new division, I am aligning all of the teams’ great experience to create an even more powerful entity.

Q: How has your background prepared you for your new role?

A: I’ve been fortunate to have many different roles within the company, from sales and product marketing management to executive leadership, and the different perspectives gleaned from these disparate positions have served me well. When some of the best management in the industry combines with a supportive corporate culture, good outcomes are most likely to occur. Also, I continue to enjoy playing music. Not only does this help with communication skills, but makes me a more balanced person and definitely keeps me grounded.

Q: What new marketing initiatives are we likely to see from the company?

A: I’m really excited about a few major initiatives that we’ve begun recently. First, we have created a team based around our Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS) lineup that will propel us into new opportunities in the professional AV and UC/IT markets with our excellent product and networking solutions. Secondly, we continue to grow our Nexo speaker business in North America, and have added a dedicated technical sales team member to best steer this success. A third initiative is our brand-new Yamaha Commercial Audio Financing (YCAF) program. Having such a branded solution in many segments of our business will really serve to reinforce our true system appeal. Finally, the overarching initiative is that we do offer the best possible systems’ solutions of the highest quality, backed by the best service and support teams in the business.

Q: What are your short-and long-term goals?

A: We are committed to becoming more than just the leader in most of the vertical markets we participate in and are on track to be the number-one total professional audio systems solutions provider in North America.

Q: What is the greatest challenge that you face?

A: The challenge in such a wide organization as the Yamaha Professional Audio Division is ensuring that we have the right people and correct deployment of our resources to realize our lofty goals. Of course, the people continue to be our greatest resource, and I am really motivated every day to ensure that our professional, growing organization remains laser-focused on our goals. Our recent hires of some of the best in the business are only just the start, and the team should never lack for clarity of purpose or feel underequipped. I’ve often said to the management team that the most fun we can all have at work is reveling in our success!
