Tampa, FL (October 18, 2016)—All Things Post, a podcast aimed at those working audio post-production, recently had to get mobile when host/director Niel Guilarte traveled to Puerto Rico to direct a documentary. As an experiment, he brought along a TASCAM MiniStudio Creator US-42 as an audio interface for mobile production and podcasting.
“When we were shooting the film in Puerto Rico, I took the MiniStudio Creator US-42 with me everywhere,” he said. “It turned out to be a great solution; you could podcast from pretty much anywhere with it.”
Back in his studio, Guilarte dug deeper. “I plugged it in, and my DAW immediately found it as a device. I didn’t have to download or install anything; it worked as soon as I plugged it in…. You can plug your smartphone or tablet straight into the front, and it has two mic/instrument inputs on the top. You also get two headphone outs, and in the back you have the USB 2.0 port and line outputs.”
Guilarte tested MiniStudio Creator US-42 in every way a podcaster might use it. “I used it to create All Things Post podcasts,” recalls the five-time Telly Award winner. “I tested it with iPhone headphones, and I even tried using it with an external battery instead of connecting with USB to the computer. Everything worked fine!”
With his well-equipped studio, one would assume that Guilarte doesn’t use every feature on the US-42. “That’s true,” he confirms, “but it’s important for many podcasters to use the built-in reverb, compression and EQ in order to sound like a pro. And I do use the PON buttons and other effects.”
