Wisycom RF Walks Oscars Red Carpet

For many, the red carpet segment of the Oscars is just as exciting as the actual awards show itself. JetWave Wireless, which handled RF communications coverage for both the talent and production teams at the carpet, however, didn’t want excitement at all, just a smooth afternoon’s work.

Hollywood, CA (March 28, 2016)—For many, the red carpet segment of the Oscars is just as exciting as the actual awards show itself. JetWave Wireless, which handled RF communications coverage for both the talent and production teams at the carpet, however, didn’t want excitement at all, just a smooth afternoon’s work.

On-site project manager Dave Martin and his team utilized Wisycom’s MFL RF Over Fiber System, MAT288 Antenna Distribution Matrix and BAA Low Noise Amplifiers, along with custom JetWave products for the event. The Wisycom antenna distribution provided IFB and RF Wireless communications coverage of the entire red carpet, grand staircase and celebrity arrivals.

“Live coverage of the Academy Awards Red Carpet show has grown over the years, and it is now one of TV’s hottest annual broadcasts,” says Martin. “Therefore, having a lot of depth in our Wisycom RF Distribution ‘toolbox’ really kept the communications distribution flexible and easy to adapt to the show’s needs.”

In addition, he says, “not having to worry about moving the show’s RF signal flow around the venue allowed me to focus on the quality of signal. The equipment provided solid RF coverage outdoors in Los Angeles, which is one of the most unfriendly spectrum environments in the U.S.”

Since the Wisycom RF Antennas were being used in such a troublesome frequency environment, Martin chose to use the Wisycom MFL RF Over Fiber system as the backbone to handle the coverage. The system integrated with the MAT288.

“Keeping everything networked allowed me to have a handle on both ends of our MFL link,” says Martin. “Overall, the show was very low stress, considering the application and environment, and this was thanks to our Wisycom systems.”
