Madeon Makes Good with “Pop Culture”

It's the viral video of the moment, and maybe a contender for Dance Song of the Summer: "Pop Culture" by Madeon, a French DJ who's just 17 years old. His homemade video clip of the track has gone viral on YouTube—passing the 1 million views mark just this morning—and no wonder: It's a slammin' little mashup.

It’s the viral video of the moment, and maybe a contender for Dance Song of the Summer: “Pop Culture” by Madeon, a French DJ who’s just 17 years old. His homemade video clip of the track has gone viral on YouTube—passing the 1 million views mark just this morning—and no wonder: It’s a slammin’ little mashup.

The clip features the teenager’s fleet fingers using a Novation Launchpad and Zero SL MkII to control an Ableton session in order to create a live mashup of 36 songs, ranging from Madonna to Deadmau5 to The Buggles.

To provide a little visual help for picking out the tracks used, Madeon fan Torrey Meeks put together a second YouTube clip for the song, comprised of clips from most of the appropriate artists’ videos, which you can catch below:

At this point, everyone from CBS News to The Huffington Post has blogged about “Pop Culture”—and now we have too. Still, great track.
