Foster The People Packs Central Park

Foster The People has made a name for itself over the last year, serving up slithering dance music with a dash of alternative rock thrown in for good measure. Fueled largely by 2011’s ubiquitous hit, “Pumped-Up Kicks,” the band has ridden a wave of popularity that shows few signs of abating as the group bops through the final leg of its world tour supporting the debut album, Torches. We’ll have the full story in an upcoming issue of Pro Sound News, but for now, here’s a taste of what was seen and heard during night two of the band’s sold-out, three-show stand at Central Park Summerstage in New York City.

Every night, the band has a local high school marching band join it onstage and throughout the evening’s venue to help perform “Houdini;” for the Central Park shows, it was the West Essex H.S. Marching Band adding to the occasion.

While the tour is carrying FOH and monitor control gear from Eighth Day Sound, it’s picking up local stacks and racks—in this case, using the house PA with hangs of eight Meyer Sound Micas and two Melodies on each side of the stage.

Frontman Mark Foster belts through Shure mics every night as the band has an endorsement with the manufacturer.
