Over two years ago, when SPARS decided to redesign its web presence, the 33-year-old recording association had the good fortune to be introduced to Lois Gilbert and Bryan Davis with JazzCorner. Lois and Bryan worked with SPARS to build the excellent site you see today. But in a greater sense, they provided far more than design and hosting. They were both immersed in the music industry, so they understood the unique challenges we all face. They provided much needed support and encouragement to us in those early days.
Lois, who founded JazzCorner in 1996, had been an on-air personality in the New York radio scene at WRVR, WNEW-AM and WBGO, as well as serving as the NY Jazz correspondent for the BBC. From that humble beginning 14 years ago, JazzCorner has grown to be the largest portal for the official websites of hundreds of jazz musicians and organizations with more than 3 million pages views a month. JazzCorner.com has received accolades from the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News and many other periodicals and media. In addition, they have been the subject of feature articles in Downbeat and JazzTimes magazines.
JazzCorner.com builds, designs and provides hosting services for web sites for Jazz musicians and other music-related businesses It also links existing websites to be part of the JazzCorner roster and portal of websites. JazzCorner pioneers practical methods of using technology to benefit the Jazz community and other music-related clients, offering customized solutions for individual Jazz musicians as well as Jazz organizations and music related businesses.
Some of the features on JazzCorner.com include the JazzCorner Jukebox, where you can stream hundreds of free tunes from musicians that are part of JazzCorner.com, and JazzCorner News, one of the most comprehensive Jazz-related news sites on the Internet.
They are also a Google news aggregator and have one of the busiest bulletin boards and forums for jazz, called Speakeasy. The company’s JazzCorner podcasts, which feature interviews with established and up-and-coming jazz musicians, were named “Best Music Podcast” by Southwest Airlines. The podcasts are available for free through the site or on iTunes.
