On Saturday, October 27, 2012, during the AES / SPARS Joint Student Section party, the SPARS Board of Directors bestowed its highest honor, the 2012 SPARS Legacy Award, on one of the recording industry’s most revered and respected luminaries, Chris Stone. Honored for a stellar career as a recording entrepreneur, Stone received the award at the legendary Coast Recorders in San Francisco before an SRO crowd—a mix of students, recent grads and established industry professionals. Shown here is SPARS President Kirk Imamura, Stone and AES Education Committee Chair, John Krivit.

SPARS President, Kirk Imamura welcomed the crowd and introduced the owner of Coast Recorders, Michael Romanowski, who shared the rich history of the facility, one of the oldest in the San Francisco market. John Krivit, Chair of the AES Education Committee and an AES Governor, also welcomed those attending on behalf of the Society. A video presentation of Stone’s career was followed by the formal presentation of the award by Imamura.

After receiving the award, Stone spent several minutes addressing the students, sharing lessons learned and concepts gleaned from an illustrious career of over 30 years. Stone then took questions from students, recent grads, as well as other participants – continuing to mentor those who approached him, well into the evening.
