Boston, MA (January 3, 2020)—The Audio Builders Workshop’s second annual Selkie Scholarship is being offered to three qualified women age 18 or over (transgender or cisgender; non-binary individuals are welcome) to attend the Mountain Recording Retreat, hosted by Recording Boot Camp.

The 2020 Mountain Recording Retreat, held May 17 – 22, an opportunity to spend a week learning, listening and relaxing in a community made up of world-class mentors and fellow music makers. The five-day retreat includes all workshops, a private room at Capon Springs, a mountain resort in rural West Virginia (two hours west of Washington DC), and three all-you-can-eat family-style meals a day. It is a chance for participants to disconnect and spend a few days focused on recording and community. Now in its fifth year, the retreat has become an annual tradition for many, and each year 80 to 90 percent of attendees come back the following year.

The winners of the scholarship, a $1,417 value, will be required to pay $300 of the registration fee. Travel to the retreat is the responsibility of the winners.

The Selkie Scholarship will be offered annually to applicants with strong potential and demonstrated aptitude. Applicants will provide an example mix along with an essay explaining what they hope to take away from this clinic and how this opportunity could help them in their own unique situation. The application period runs from December 4, 2019, through February 15, 2020. The form can be found at goo.gl/forms/5ipnGhqd1Rbhae2N2.

The Audio Builders Workshop, through efforts like the Selkie Scholarship, is dedicated to encouraging the entry of talented women into the profession of audio engineering. Audio Builders Workshop is a workgroup of the Boston Audio Engineering Society.
