Millennia Takes On 50 Mics for Sweetwater

Ft. Wayne, IN (June 6, 2017)—Sweetwater recently held one of the most comprehensive microphone shootouts ever, evaluating 50 vocal mics inside its Russ Berger-designed Studio A. Conducting the marathon mic test were Sweetwater’s Lynn Fuston and Mark Hornsby with the help of Millennia HV-3R mic preamps, a few assistants and two studio vocalists.

The goal was to make vocal recordings with the fewest possible variables and the cleanest signal path, in order to allow Sweetwater’s customers to compare more than $80,000 worth of microphones. Ensuring that the variables involved were as similar as possible, great care was taken in positioning and calibrating the mics, and the vocalists consistently sang the same part over and over.

Millennia Media HV-3R mic preamps were used for the massive mic test .

Describing the setup, Fuston noted, “All mics were recorded using the incredibly clear and transparent Millennia HV-3R mic preamp. I’ve used dozens of preamps during my career and Millennia was absolutely my first choice when it came to auditioning all these mics.”
