NAMM Panel Digs into Archives

NAMM event will explore real-world archiving for pros at every level.

Anaheim, CA (January 16, 2018)—This year’s NAMM Show TEC Tracks includes “A Musician’s Guide to Archiving,” featuring a panel drawn from both side of the recording studio glass.

Recording engineer/producer Lenise Bent will moderates the panel, which is being held Saturday, January 27, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Avila Ballroom on Level 4 of the Anaheim Hilton.

Discussion topics include how professional archival facilities rescue audio from deteriorating tapes, keeping assets viable after tape becomes unplayable. Sending digital copies for mastering and mixing means no damage or mishaps to fragile tapes. Digital files can be electronically delivered, while assets are always safe and available.

Panelists include Dan Johnson, archive engineer, United Recording; Kelly Pribble, archive engineer, Iron Mountain Entertainment Services; Dave McEowen, archive engineer, UMG/Capitol Studios; Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, recording artist; and Jack Douglas, producer/recording engineer.
