UNT Expands Focusrite RedNet Network

University bulks out original system installed three years ago.

Denton, TX (May 22, 2018)—Three years ago, 44 Focusrite RedNet units were installed and connected to create a digital audio network that linked nine performance spaces inside the College of Music at the University of North Texas (UNT). Now, three years later, the network has been expanded with additional units.

“In three years, there hasn’t been a single problem with the RedNet network, and adding new units has been as easy as adding a new computer to a network,” says Blair Liikala, manager of Recording Services. The network is used to transport audio throughout the College of Music’s complex of rooms, as well as for live streaming of performances through the building’s audio control rooms.

In addition, the RedNet audio network acts as a guide for a video network the school has added over the last year, which runs on a separate but parallel network from audio.

Among the newly added equipment is a RedNet A16R 16-channel analog I/O interface; two RedNet PCIeR Cards, employed to extend the network to the College of Music’s Logic Pro DAW and MIDI sequencer software; a pair of RedNet AM2 stereo audio monitoring units; and two D16Rs used as the interface with the video system, for embedding audio for video.

All that is in addition to the original system, still in place, which includes seven RedNet 1 eight-channel A-D/D-A interfaces and seven RedNet 2 16-channel A-D/D-A interfaces; a half-dozen RedNet D16R 16-channel AES3 I/Os; two RedNet D64R 64-channel MADI bridges; four RedNet HD32R 32-channel HD Dante network bridges that act as interfaces for the school’s Pro Tools|HD systems; 17 RedNet MP8R eight-channel mic pre and A/D converters; and a RedNet 3 32-channel digital I/O interface.
