LOS ANGELES, CA – Green Day recently scored their third U.S. number-one album on the Billboard 200 chart with the release of Revolution Radio, the group’s 12th long player, which hit stores and digital platforms on October 7, 2016, via Reprise Records. The album was yet another hit for Culver City, CA-based mastering facility The Bakery and its founder, mastering engineer Eric Boulanger. Aside from being number-one in the U.S., the album also hit number one in the U.K. and Canada.
For such a high-profile rock project, there are notably very few engineer credits on the record: Chris Dugan for tracking, Andrew Scheps for mixing and Boulanger for mastering. The album was self-produced by Green Day. Scheps personally recommended Boulanger and The Bakery for the project.
Dugan previously worked with Green Day on 2004’s smash American Idiot (pre-production and some instrumental work), 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown, the 2010 American Idiot cast recording, multiple live albums, a three-album studio opus in 2012, and various other Green Day-related side projects. He states, “I am very proud of the band and what we’ve accomplished with Revolution Radio. We’re glad to have Andrew and Eric contribute their gifts to the finished product.”
“Green Day is a band with a lot of history and an immediately recognizable sound,” notes Scheps (whose other credits include Adele, Metallica, Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, Lana Del Rey and others). “I was really excited that Chris and the band chose me to handle the mix, and I think we got something that is powerful and contemporary that also sits perfectly within the context of their amazing catalog.”
Boulanger remarks, “I couldn’t be happier to have a project that I’m so proud of not only ‘hit,’ but hit number-one! I especially thank Maestro Andrew for his sonic creativity / perfection, while recommending The Bakery for mastering the project. I thank the band and their longtime collaborator Chris Dugan for crafting such inspirational musical material in the first place.”
