Ft. Wayne, IN – February 2014… … One of the biggest challenges faced by today’s worship leaders is maintaining the attention of the congregation. If the message can’t be clearly heard and understood, its relevance is lost. As a result, houses of worship everywhere are paying more attention to the quality of their sound reinforcement systems. The focus starts at the input, which in most cases, is the microphone. To ensure the highest level of speech intelligibility, worship leaders at Brookside Community Church rely on H6 Headset microphones from Menlo Park, CA-based Countryman Associates.
Ft. Wayne-based Ryan “Ryno” Henderson is a live sound engineer who, in addition to providing sound services for the education, concert, and special events markets, also consults with numerous houses of worship in his area. While consulting for Brookside Community Church, he discovered that interim pastor Dr. Tiberius Rata was having difficulty finding a microphone that enabled him to interact with the congregation without having to constantly make adjustments. This led Henderson to recommend the Countryman H6.
“It can be very difficult finding a headset microphone that fits securely,” Henderson explained. “If the microphone doesn’t stay securely in place, audio quality suffers because of the changing proximity of the capsule to the person’s mouth. Not only does audio quality suffer, but if the person wearing the microphone is constantly having to adjust the way it sits on their face, it becomes a major distraction—to both the person speaking and the audience.”
“This is where the Countryman H6 excels,” he continued. “The H6 Headset has a really low profile and, since it’s available in different colors, it’s easy to match a person’s skin tone—making it practically invisible. It’s also light and very easy to adjust, so the mic stays securely in place, enabling presenters to deliver consistent sound quality without having to worry about the microphone’s placement.”
Henderson gave a particularly upbeat assessment of the audio performance of Countryman microphones. “I currently have two Countryman H6 Headsets and an E6 Earset microphone,” he reports. “Both models deliver high gain before feedback, so there’s never an issue getting adequate level and the audio output is clear and very natural sounding. Further, both mics are available with either omnidirectional or directional elements, so you can be assured of finding a model that works best for any application.”
As both the H6 Headset and E6 Earset microphones are so highly configurable, it’s not uncommon to have questions about choosing the ‘right tool for the job.’ Here, too, Henderson reports that Countryman’s customer and technical support services are first rate. “Every time I’ve spoken to people at Countryman, they’ve been really helpful, “he said. “They’re very responsive and they understand how the equipment is used in various applications, so they are able to offer meaningful advice.”
Before turning his attention to an upcoming project, Henderson offered these final thoughts regarding his experience with Countryman microphones, “I purchased my first Countryman mic in 2007 and, since that time, I continue to be impressed with the performance, the features, and the reliability of their products. Everything the company does is top notch. Look at the case the H6 Headset comes in. It’s elegant and offers a lot of protection for the microphone. I can only dream of a day that other manufacturers put that much thought and effort into every aspect of their products. Countryman cares about both their products and their customers and its shows in everything they do.”
