Santa Monica, Calif. — The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing® Manufacturer Council Breakfast was held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, during the 139th AES Convention in New York City. At their biannual meeting, this group of industry leaders — who are dedicated to the advancement of sound quality and to the overall growth of the professional audio industry — shared ideas and discussed issues of interest to all parties in attendance, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of high-quality audio, credits and recording metadata, music streaming bit rates and other related topics.
The following manufacturers, organizations and publications were represented at the meeting: AES, API, Audio-Technica, Dolby, Focusrite Novation, GC Pro, Iron Mountain, iZotope, JBL, Manley Labs, Melodyne, Ocean Way Audio, Presonus, Prism Audio/Sadie, Pyramix/Merging Technologies, Royer, Rupert Neve Designs, Shure, Sonic Studio, SSL, Waves and Westlake Pro.
The program included opening remarks from AES Executive Director Bob Moses; a preview of two Saturday seminars hosted by the P&E Wing from Managing Director Maureen Droney (“Your Credits, Your Money, the New Data Standards and DDEX – What YOU Need to Know!” and “GRAMMY SoundTables® – After Hours: Mixing for Late Night New York”); the debut of RIN (Recording Information Notification) with words from Paul Jessop (County Analytics), Niels Rump (DDEX Secretariat) and John Spencer (BMS/Chace); an update on Recording Academy advocacy by P&E Wing co-chairs Scott Jacoby and Harvey Mason Jr.; an update on the P&E Wing / CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) DEG (Digital Entertainment Group) High Resolution Audio Initiative from Phil Wagner (President, Focusrite Novation Inc.) and Leslie Ann Jones (Director of Recording & Scoring, Skywalker Sound); and remarks on the GRAMMY® Hearing Health Initiative from producer David Frost and mastering engineer Michael Romanowski.
P&E Wing Managing Director Maureen Droney stated, “It is always a highlight of the show to meet with our manufacturer friends at AES, to celebrate the occasion together and to discuss the state of the industry. By putting our minds and efforts together, we can have an impact on issues of vital importance to everyone in the recording community.”
